Part time Social Worker

Job Overview

Kafika House is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Part-Time Social Worker to provide supportive counseling to children undergoing treatment for surgically treatable disabilities and their families. The ideal candidate will advocate for a holistic approach to care, working closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the well-being of our patients.

About us

Kafika House is an international NGO based in Arusha, with a facility in Karatu, Tanzania. We run the Kafika House programme, providing a safe and nurturing environment for children undergoing pre- and post-operative care and rehabilitation for surgically treatable disabilities. These include cleft lip and palate, clubfoot, skeletal fluorosis, burn scar contractures, and osteomyelitis. Our vision is that no child in Tanzania should live with a treatable disability.

Role Responsibilities

  • Maintain up-to-date patient records as per government requirements and submit timely reports to the Facility Coordinator.
  • Provide supportive and compassionate counseling to patients and their families, guiding them through their treatment journey.
  • Collaborate with therapists, nurses, mental health professionals, and other healthcare providers to ensure holistic patient care.
  • Support the implementation of Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) tools to track patient progress and program effectiveness.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Facility Coordinator.

Education, Skills, and Experience

  1. Bachelor’s Degree or Advanced Diploma in Social Work, Sociology, Community Development, or a related field from a recognized institution. Registration with the Tanzania Association of Social Workers (TASWO) is an added advantage.
  2. At least two (2) years of relevant work experience in case management, counseling, or community outreach, preferably in a hospital, NGO, or social welfare setting. Experience working with children, persons with disabilities, or vulnerable groups is highly desirable.
  3. Strong communication skills and a compassionate demeanor.
  4. Ability to work effectively in a team and within a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
  5. Time management and organizational skills.
  6. Reliable, trustworthy, and able to handle sensitive patient information.
  7. Fluency in Swahili and English (both written and spoken).
  8. Basic computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, and report writing skills
